  12. SHAREWARE - THE CONCEPT

  14. This software is distributed as shareware. It is NOT free software or public
  15. domain software.  Shareware is a way of marketing software which brings
  16. benefits to users and authors alike.  From the author's point of view it means
  17. that advertising costs are very low or negligible as the author of the
  18. software gives unlimited permission - even encouragement - to copy the
  19. software and give it to friends and others, who the author of the software
  20. then regards as potential customers.

  22. From the user's point of view it means that the software can be evaluated for
  23. a reasonable period to see if it fits the needs which the user has.  If the
  24. user decides that it does, then he "registers" the software by paying the
  25. author a modest sum:  generally a fraction of the price which an equivalent
  26. commercial product would have cost because the marketing costs have been kept
  27. low.

  29. To encourage registration the author often supplies extra items:  in the
  30. case of NoteWorthy 2 this comprises:

  32.         1. The latest version of the sofware which has all reminder notices
  33.               removed, and customised with your name and address on the closing
  34.               screen.
  35.         2. A printed, indexed manual
  36.         3. Sample documents showing the best music notation styles and how
  37.               to accomplish these with NoteWorthy 2.
  38.         4. Unlimited support by telephone or letter
  39.         5. Upgrades at a nominal cost, by return of the installation disk
  40.         6. The encouragement to submit your own "wish-list" for features in
  41.               future upgrades

  43. Like most shareware, NoteWorthy 2 is in a continual state of development, and
  44. registering your software is the best way of being informed of upgrades, and
  45. also contributing to its development.

  47. If you are using NoteWorthy 2 on a regular basis then you should register it.
